KCS Rankings Guide

How toGet Ranked

KCS has separate official 1v1 ladders, Bubble Rankings, and Tournament Rankings. This guide explains how each path works and why one ranking lane never rewrites another.

Ranking Lanes

Three public ranking paths

Official 1v1 Ladders

Men's and Women's rankings

Official KCS 1v1 results determine the separate Men's and Women's ladders. Tournament results and KCS Picks do not change official 1v1 records or directly move these ladders.

Bubble Rankings

Ranks 17–24

The Bubble is the ranked field immediately outside the Top 16. Dancers can improve within the Bubble, but the Top 16 Challenge Gate controls entry into the active Top 16.

Tournament Rankings

Separate season points race

Tournament Rankings track official bracket round wins, Tournament W-L, points, and the Road to DS6 cutoff. They remain separate from the 1v1 ladders.

Official 1v1 Path

Build your ladder history

01

Enter an official KCS 1v1 matchup

Only verified official KCS 1v1 results build the official Men's or Women's 1v1 record and rating.

02

Build rating through official results

Opponent strength, rating confidence, the official outcome, and a modest judge-decision adjustment shape the rating update. The full event is processed from one frozen pre-event state.

03

Earn the right challenge

A Bubble-ranked dancer can improve inside the Bubble, but entering the Top 16 requires an official win over a dancer who was inside the frozen pre-event Top 16.

Top 16 Challenge Gate

Win your way into the Top 16

A Bubble-ranked dancer cannot enter the Top 16 from rating, a field shift, inactivity, tournament performance, or a win over another Bubble-ranked dancer alone.

17+

Start from the Bubble

A dancer ranked 17 or lower remains outside the active Top 16 until the Challenge Gate is satisfied.

VS

Battle a Top 16 opponent

The opponent must have held a frozen pre-event rank from 1 through 16 in an official KCS 1v1 battle.

WIN

Take the defeated rank

The successful challenger takes the defeated dancer's exact Top 16 position. The defeated dancer moves to the challenger's former Bubble position.

The gate uses frozen pre-event positions and is applied after the entire event is processed. This keeps every challenge consistent, even when several official battles happen at the same event.

Tournament Picture

Points, records, recency, and DS6

Tournament Points

50 points per official bracket round win

Every verified KCS tournament bracket round win contributes 50 points to Tournament Rankings.

Tournament Records

Bracket W-L stays separate

A first-round bracket loss shows 0-1 · 0 PTS. A prelim-only appearance with no official bracket battle shows — · 0 PTS.

Tie Break

Most recent tournament first

When dancers are tied on points, the dancer who competed in the more recent tournament ranks ahead.

Road to DS6

Cutoff after rank 16

The Tournament Rankings tab marks the active Road to DS6 cutoff after rank 16. Projected labels remain projections until officially confirmed.
